It is very important to connect with nature at any age. To be outside and unplug from all of today's distractions is one of the best forms of self help. Like most of the population, I had always had issues off and on with anxiety and depression, but when I finally allowed myself a few years ago to become immersed in the outdoors, those feelings quickly vanished.
Becoming a woman that loves the outdoors boosted my confidence, my mental and physical health and instantly provided me a lifelong passion (or obsession!); to hike, to camp, and to push myself further than I ever thought possible.
I want to encourage and influence people of all ages to experience a week, a weekend or even just a night away from technology and the buzz of every day life. It is important to have the gear you need to hike in to camp comfortably, set up with ease and sleep with the trees.
The amount of satisfaction one gains from the simplest things; setting up a tent, starting a fire with very little, cooking yourself dinner and getting cozy in the temporary home you've made for yourself is astounding. Everyone needs to experience it at least once, and most will find themselves coming back again and again.
Your gear (and your mindset of course!) is what makes sure you can get through it successfully!
Paying forward our gear to the next generation guarantees positive attitudes toward the gift of giving and building self esteem as well as the importance of conservation and understanding of LNT principles.
